E' equipaggiato per una potenza di fuoco a distanza elevata, oltre all'armamento standard dello ZAKU Warrior, la variante Gunner porta con se anche un cannone a lungo raggio ead alta energia, l'M1500 "Orthros", montato sul Gunner Wizard Pack. Questo cannone a raggi è l'arma a distanza più potente disponibile per lo Zaku Warrior e garantisce un'incredibile potenza di fuoco su lunghe distanze, in grado di distruggere un'astronave in un solo colpo.
L'Orthros prende il nome dal cane a due teste della mitologia greca, fratello del più famoso cane a tre teste Cerbero.
Il Gunner Zaku di colore rosso è stato utilizzato dal pilota della Red Elite ZAFT Lunamaria Hawke, uno dei piloti di stanza sulla nuova nave da battaglia Minerva.
